West Asheville

In its prime in the 1930’s, West Asheville was an incorporated town with a trolley line and a population of 12,000.  Years later, its business corridor dwindled and its desirability faded.  Then a revitalization started in the mid-1990’s and now West Asheville has become one of Asheville’s most popular communities.  Bohemian in nature, West Asheville is home to restaurants (from diners to four-star), bakeries, a food co-op, and several neighborhood pubs.  Plus, there’s vintage clothing shops, art galleries, a library, furniture stores and music stores too!  The arts are also very much a part of the West Asheville vibe as shown by the number of artists and galleries in West Asheville’s thriving River Arts District. 

Haywood road is the main thoroughfare through West Asheville and there you’ll find neat old buildings that now house new modern businesses. Homes in West Asheville range from older bungalows and two-story traditionals popular in the 1930’s and 40’s to mid-century ranchers to new green-built arts and crafts styles.  Many homes are within walking distance to shops, pubs and restaurants and that convenience adds to West Asheville’s charm and sense of community.  With multiple parks both large and small - including a dog park, West Asheville offers residents lots of opportunities to enjoy the outdoors
