Central Asheville

Downtown Asheville is vibrant with exciting nightlife, art galleries, live music, unique retail shops, and outstanding eateries, and the distinctive architecture found there provides an appealing backdrop with its Art Deco, Neoclassical and Romanesque Revival designs.

The new Pack Square Park in the city’s center is home to multiple music and art events year-round and the Grove Arcade is home to many wonderful restaurants and boutique shops.  Lofts and condominiums abound and are located across downtown along with an array of choices from old to new.  Many of them have impressive views and due to the limited numbers that come onto the market, prices generally start around $300,000 and go up from there.  You can also find older homes within the Central Business District that are within walking distance of all downtown activities.

The Montford district which was originally developed in the 1890's is located just blocks from downtown Asheville. One of Asheville’s prominent neighborhoods, it was home to doctors, lawyers and businessmen of that day, and Biltmore House architect Richard Sharp Smith designed many of their houses.  However, in the 1930’s, Montford fell into decline until the mid-1990’s when folks willing to renovate and restore began discovering Montford. Designated as a Historic District 1981, Montford is now a community alive with an active community association that takes pride in its past as well as its revival. In Montford you will find many of the B&B's and historic homes along with those still needing to be refurbished and new urbanism homes being built on remaining lots in the neighborhood.

Adjacent to Montford is Asheville’s Broadway Corridor and Five Points neighborhoods. There you will find 1920’s and 30’s vintage bungalow style homes close to all downtown amenities as well as popular grocers Trader Joe’s and Whole Food’s Greenlife.

The National Register of Historic Places noted 41 Panola St. as an early 20th c. vernacular shingle dwelling within the Montford Area Historic District.
