Flat Rock

The Village of Flat Rock was established in the early nineteenth century as a summer haven for the affluent escaping the sweltering heat of the South Carolina low country.  Only 20 miles south of Asheville, it is located in the heart of the Blue Ridge National Heritage Area of Western North Carolina.  Nicknamed the "Little Charleston of the Mountains", the whole Flat Rock district is on the National Register of Historic Places.

The close-knit community of Flat Rock has a passion to keep their rich heritage alive.  The village is home to poets, artists and entrepreneurs that thrive in a variety of shops, galleries restaurants and businesses. Top attractions include the Carl Sandburg Home, and the Flat Rock Playhouse which was designated the 'State Theatre of North Carolina' in 1961 and is considered one of the 'Top Ten Theaters in the Country'.  The area is also highly known for its boys and girls camps, wonderful golf courses, highly rated B&B's and the Highland Lake Resort.
