North Asheville

While other areas of Asheville have gone through periods of growth, decline or resurgence, North Asheville has always been steady – maintaining the desirability it has had since its early days.  Just north of downtown, North Asheville encompasses neighborhoods around landmarks such as the Grove Park Inn, the Asheville Country Club, UNC-Asheville, Beaver Lake, and Weaver Park, North Asheville features a rich mix of architectural options.  There are large, stately homes as well as arts and crafts bungalows built in the 1920’s and 30’s.  You’ll also find mid-century ranchers, and new construction. 

Merrimon Avenue and Charlotte Street are the two main roads through North Asheville.  Along these routes you’ll find plenty of interesting eateries, shops, and grocery stores – including national favorites like Trader Joe’s along with local grocer Fresh Market and local restaurants Luella’s and Avenue M.  Many of the neighborhoods are within a short distance of these stores and shops- which certainly adds to the charm and convenience of the community.
Also found in North Asheville is UNC Asheville, one of the nation's top public liberal arts universities.  UNCA has approximately 3600 students and was created in 1969.  Its outstanding reputation earned it a ranking among just 75 institutions nationwide  as a "Best Value" public college – in The Princeton Review's Best Value Colleges: 2014 Edition (January 2014). 

North Asheville neighborhoods include: Albemarle Park, Annandale, Beaver Lake, Chestnut Hills, Grove Park, Kimberly, Jackson Park, Lake View Park, Murdock, Norwood Park, Reynolds Mountain, and Woodfin.
