About halfway between Asheville and Greenville/Spartanburg, SC is Hendersonville, NC and nearby Flat Rock, NC. Both towns are located in Henderson County on the Interstate 26 corridor which begins in Charleston SC and travels northwest through Asheville and on to Tennessee.

Hendersonville has a long history in agriculture with its apple orchards and greenhouses a large part of its economy.  The Henderson County Curb Market remains popular and sellers must be county residents - some are third and fourth generation vendors.  Hendersonville's quaint downtown attracts both tourists and residents alike with antique shops, boutiques and restaurants. 

There's plenty to do outdoors in Henderson county too.  DuPont State Forest covers several thousand acres and offers a variety activities for any outdoor enthusiast. The city maintains eight parks as well, with excellent recreational facilities. There are private golf communities - as well as public and semi-private courses.


The Village of Flat Rock was established in the early nineteenth century as a summer haven for the affluent escaping the sweltering heat of the South Carolina low country.  Nicknamed the "Little Charleston of the Mountains", the whole Flat Rock district is on the National Register of Historic Places.  The community has a passion to keep their rich heritage alive.  The village is home to poets, artists and entrepenuers that thrive in a variety of shops, galleries restaurants and businesses.  Top attractions include the Carl Sandburg Home, and the Flat Rock Playhouse which was designated the 'State Theatre of North Carolina' in 1961 and is considered one of the 'Top Ten Theaters in the Country'.  

 

Quality health and medical facilities are available at either Pardee Memorial Hospital or Park Ridge Hospital.  Asheville and Greenville medical facilities are also nearby - about a 30 minute drive either way.  Hendersonville and Flat Rock are also conveniently located near the area's two airports - Asheville and Greenville-Spartanburg.
